NBC has picked up five of its most valuable performers for the 2013-14 season. On Friday, the network handed out early renewals for Revolution, Grimm, Law & Order: SVU, Chicago Fire and Parenthood. From J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Warner Bros. TV, Revolution ranks as NBC’s top scripted drama across all of primetime — averaging more than 6 million viewers in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic.

Someone tweeted this picture from our weekend in the woods. I’m passed out on the pink float next to Lee on the yellow float. It was a fun weekend in a really neat place. All I could think was that it was a prime location for an old fashioned Pristine Canteen.

L.A. edition: I had Umami Burger not once, but twice during my week-long stay. It’s just that good.

I popped my Umami cherry at their La Brea restaurant with a Cali Burger (butter lettuce, slow-roasted tomato, house spread, house-made American cheese, and caramelized onions), sweet potato fries, and cheese filled tots (!). I figured I’d play it safe on my first time there with a classic burger and I was right: the beef was the shining star here.

My second burger was had at the Umami off Sunset in the Space 15 Twenty complex. The interior of this location was super lovely and cozy. I had the Umami burger (caramelized onions, roasted tomato, parmesan crisp and Umami ketchup HOLD the shiitake mushrooms) with a side of skinny fries. The parmesan crisp really was the key to this burger. Honestly, I wish there was a parmesan crisp in every burger. Yum.

I still maintain that Oinkster is better than Umami…

Oregon Dachshund Rescue

Holy crap I just saw the hubbub about fat dachshund Obie and how the rescue group he was donated to is suing to get him back from his foster person.

Full disclosure: we adopted Pudge, our mini black/tan, from Oregon Dachshund Rescue over a year ago. This is the group trying to get Obie (not Pudge) back.

I feel really bad about the situation and wish, out of everything, the dog will get better. We didn’t have any issues with the group and I think the group president really cares about dachshunds, but I can see the siren song of fame and money all over this situation.

Obie was fat - like 70lbs fat - and it costs $ to rehab a dog that big. I saw Michael Strahan strain to pick Obie up on his morning show. I get the idea of publicity to fund his rehab and sure, maybe the group shouldve led the effort, rather than the fosterer. Ultimately, if it gets Obie down to a healthy size, that’s what matters.

WON’T SOMEONE THINK OF THE FAT DACHSHUND?!?
